About me
Sophie Darling
Sophie Darling is an Ethnomusicologist, music journalist, radio producer, PR rep and DJ - all in the realms of international beats, specialising in African and Arab disco vinyl and niche styles. Reggae was Sophies first music love, having heard it from the age of 5 on a mixtape made by her godfather. She grew up exclaiming “I’m the happiest I could possibly be” when dancing to live reggae, ska and dub. Naturally, she began DJing, almost unable to resist selecting totally grooving songs – starting off commandeering parties, and developed a demand. Through radio and a degree in Ethnomusicology, Sophie started to curate my vinyl collections carefully to include chunks of African, maqam and Maghreb disco, reggae ska and dub, calypso, rapso, cumbia… the list goes on, ‘anything that grooves and makes me feel good.’ Since 2016, Sophie has been passionately producing radio enhancing her skills as a presenter, as well as producing and editing audio content for others. Having a sincere passion for the art of storytelling and helping others to harbour ideas, and reimagining and transforming them into interesting audio content. Helping to transmit and share stories and voices. Additionally, Sophie writes and performs her own original music, releasing her debut album "The Sophie Darling Show" in 2016. #sophiedarling #globalbandstandweekender #thepeopleslounge #people'slounge
