Jeeni's weekly round-up of music and entertainment news. One in three music industry jobs were lost during pandemic In a report by UK Music, it was revealed that one in three music industry jobs have been lost as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The findings were published annual report, This Is Music 2021. According to the report, there has been a "devastating impact" on the music industry with 69,000 fewer jobs in 2020- a drop of 35%. Additionally, it was found that the music industry's contribution to the UK economy fell by 46%, from £5.8bn in 2019 to £3.1bn in 2020. Coronavirus enforced shutdowns of venues caused live music revenues in the UK to collapse by around 90 per cent in 2020, leaving many musicians, studio and venue staff without work. Music streaming market facing competition inquiry The UK’s competition watchdog is to launch an inquiry into the music streaming market and whether it is competitive and fair. Streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and Youtube will be looked at by The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). CMA chief executive Andrea Coscelli said: “The UK has a love affair with music and is home to many of the world’s most popular artists. We want to do everything we can to ensure that this sector is competitive, thriving and works in the interests of music lovers." COVID is 'creating a new genre' for live music Lockdowns have forced musicians to think of new ways to perform their music live. Many performing sets over live streaming to a worldwide audience. We've seen more cinematic experiences done by artists such as The Weeknd with his medley performance of Save Your Tears/In Your Eyes at last November's American Music Awards. Alex Lill, the creative force behind The Weeknd's recent videos and live performances, used a "single-shot tracking style and moved it outside onto the bare streets of Los Angeles, transforming the real-world Covid backdrop into his stage. Complete with fireworks, timed pyrotechnics and high-angle shots, it made the location and its atmosphere an active part of the performance." International touring DJ Hot Since 82 took to the sky using a hot air balloon as a new venue. Coldplay recieving backlash over "eco-friendly" world tour Coldplay has pledged to make their world tour eco-friendly, which will be powered with solar panels and kinetic dance floors. They have also modified effects such as lasers to be more energy-efficient, building their set from more sustainable materials such as bamboo and have pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold. However, the band have received backlash that they will be continuing to fly by private jet. "And the people that give us backlash for that kind of thing, for flying, they're right. So we don't have any argument against that. Singer Chris Martin told the BBC " "We could stay at home and that may be better. But we want to tour and we want to meet people and connect with people - so try and do it in the cleanest way possible." Independent Musicians & Performers have 365 Days to Celebrate

Happy Birthday IMAP! A year ago today Jeeni founding directors decided they wanted to create a supportive, free, public, non-judgemental, democratic, kind and sharing organic eco-system for independent musicians and performers across the globe. Independent Musicians and Performers (IMAP) Community managed by Jeeni was launched this time exactly one year ago. Jeeni CEO & founding Director who manages the community group said: "Seven days a week for the entire 365 days we personally supported and promoted independent artists across the globe. Sharing and showcasing the creatives and we are now members of 300 + other Facebook groups with potential outreach to 4.3m members, with access to over 34K videos. All of this has been achieved at NO cost, just our time and passion resulted in organic growth during the Pandemic. We are absolutely delighted and very proud of our effort and commitment to our members. But we could not have done it with all our members so a massive congratulations to all of you." Today we're celebrating our first anniversary, and what an amazing year it’s been. Our thanks to each and every one of you. We have loved every minute of it, and we’ve grown stronger all the time. Over 3,300 members, sharing, liking, posting, interacting and supporting one another through these challenging times. We've been connecting and promoting unsigned singers, musicians, performers, poets, dancers and DJs every step of the way, 7 days a week for the last 365 days. We have broadcast two global Festivals featuring Grammy Award-winners alongside brand new talent, and our next Festival will be live-streamed around the world on Saturday 10th April to spotlight some of our favourite IMAP members plus some very special guests. And it’s been a great year for Jeeni, where we run the IMAP group for you. 1,800 artist showcases, 105 Channels, 139 Celebrity Fanbases and over 2 million audience outreach. We have welcomed 11 new Team Jeeni members to match singers and songwriters with bands, mentors and experienced professionals, safe and securely online, and we’ve supported artists raising money from investors and platforms like AmplifyX, Patreon and Rocket Fuel. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - 2021 Nominations

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Cleveland, Ohio USA The nominees are out and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 is as eclectic and diverse as ever. The list includes 16 extremely talented acts, with 7 receiving their first nomination. @rockhall made the announcement earlier today and invited fans to join in and vote for their favourites, to get them into this Cathedral of Legends. https://twitter.com/rockhall/status/1359489797056696325 The nominations are announced To qualify for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, all nominees have to have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before their first nomination. The nominations list for the Hall of Fame begins with Mary J. Blige, whose first album 'What's the 411' was released in 1992. This year's Hall of Fame contains seven first-time nominees. Pioneer of the Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, who passed away in 1997, released his first work 'Fela, Fela, Fela' in 1969. The Go-Go's, who formed in 1978 and released their first album, 'Beauty and the Beat' in 1981. Jay-Z began his hugely successful life in the music industry in the mid '90's and is now regarded as one of the most influential artists in Hip-Hop history. His first album 'Reasonable Doubt' hit the charts in 1996. Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, having been around since the mid '70's with over 40 albums to their discography, have also received their first nomination. Three of the first-timers already appear in the Hall of Fame, though in different guises. Carole King has been nominated for the Hall of Fame 2021, but was inducted in 1990 with David Goffin for her songwriting talents. Tina Turner, was inducted in 1991 but with partner Ike Turner. This is her first solo nomination. The Foo Fighters also make their first appearance. However, Dave Grohl already has a place after being inducted in 2014 as part of the band, Nirvana.
