XVIV - Original Music For Brass by Hugh Davies
My original idea was for it to be played on 19 valved brass instruments but it ended up as the following: Piccolo trumpet, Eb Trumpet, 4 Bb trumpets, Flugelhorn, Tenor Horn, Baritone, 2 Euphoniums, 2 Tubas. Most of which were doubled. I think thats 13 parts in all, so close! Chemical Sleep
According to the band, “Chemical Sleep is a look at the effects of addiction, through the eyes of a friend. While the song itself never refers to any particular vices, it can be applied to any and all ways in which we harm ourselves or seek escape. The song explores the attitude and personality changes we have seen in people close to us, from the excuses and lies we make to hide our habits, to the way we push others away when they try to help us.”
