Signature Contemporary part 2 at 'Celebrate' 2018

Signature are a contemporary group based in Portsmouth underneath the company - The Movement Initiative. It’s currently a group of girls 14 – 18 years old who are passionate and dedicated to the style and extremely talented! They are currently choreographed by an amazing dancer Lucy Atkins and assistant choreographer Freya Williams. Signature was created in 2015 and the group has continued to grow and advance! They have competed in only a handful of competitions since forming but each time have come out successful and even on top! Signature have performed and The Movement Initiative’s annual show ‘Celebrate’ 3 times in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as well as competing at Platform Dance Festival with a team dance, multiple solos, duos and small group routines too. Some of the girls go and compete alone in competitions such as PDA championships too. Due to the lockdown, the group have recently started up again but have been spending their training time choreographing routines and catching up with lost time together. The team are always looking to invite new members to join so make sure to check them out.

The advancement of the art of dance through education, performance and provision of facilities. Encouraging and empowering young people across the south coast.The Movement Initiative have successfully won various dance competitions around Europe and are now World Champions in the International Dance Organisation. The charity is run by Gareth Smith who set up the school to keep children off the streets and make sure they have access to opportunities for dance classes as well as great health benefits. But every year we gather and recite the same poetry and songs, and I've often wondered about all the Scottish poetry that gets left unread, especially from the female perspective. I wanted to unearth some lesser known poetry so Cradle Songs are settings of the poems I discovered and connected with on my hunt. The poems are about mourning (Mary Queen of Scots's Melancholy Air), unrequited love (Marion Angus's Mary's Song), and motherhood (Carolina Oliphant's Cradle Song), and span from the 16th to the 20th Century." ‘Cradle Songs’ featuring 'Melancholy Air Instrumental' released 28 January 2022.
