Songs of the Syrian Refugees

In his song, Mohamad is singing about how strange life is, how harsh the nights are: ‘Oh this life is so strange... our home became very far. Very far.’ But before he can finish, he is overcome by homesickness and with his head in his hands, he cries. He is crying for his beloved country and for the father he left behind.Abu and Mohamad are residents of Zaatari, a refugee camp located just a few kilometres east of Mafraq, Jordan, near the Syrian border. Originally established as a temporary settlement in July 2012 for Syrians fleeing the civil war, Zaatari is now home to an estimated 79,000 refugees and stretches over five square kilometres. The Jeeni Refugee Aid channel supports refugee aid and charities across the world.

The Sabbatical (Part 5): Epilogue. Excerpts from "The Sabbatical: A Year of Travel During the Pandemic" by James R.A. He

The Sabbatical, By James R.A. Herriot. Part 5: Epilogue. If you were able to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? During the second Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, James Herriot decided to collate various of the journeys he and his wife (Debbie) have made during their life together as a journal for the grandchildren. Reminiscing about their favourite places, James also includes suggestions for good books, his favourite music, as well as fine wines consumed with family and friends in the various locations.Travel with him from his beautiful home town of Berwick-upon-Tweed to Australia, New Zealand, America, Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Turkey, and others, plus some closer to home – all 52 having their own story to tell. Sometimes humorous, sometimes sad, his observations are always thought-provoking. The Sabbatical will help you to reminisce about places you have visited – or possibly encourage you to visit them for yourself."The Sabbatical: A Year of Travel During the Pandemic" is Copyright ©2023 James R.A.
